It is almost impossible to sit in a dress with cut-outs like this, but Emma’s perfect posture pulled it off. She looked impossibly cool, and she lip-synced Ludacris so phenomenally well, I think some of The Roots might actually have been crying.

ALWAYS DRESS LIKE THIS, TAYLOR SWIFT. ALWAYS. She does hipster-grandma-chic street style better than anyone else, and it’s such a refreshing change from her neverending stream of princess dresses. The vintage feel of those shoes is just fantastic – it’s not a shape you see too often anymore. And the dress? I don’t have $140 to spare, but if I did, it would be spent on this dress.

Oh my God! Is it possible? Has Olivia Munn finally worn something interesting? It looks like I’ll have to pick a different celebrity to represent all things boring on the red carpet, because Ms. Munn is KILLING IT in these striped separates. I love the sportiness of the sleeves combined with the femininity of the floral print. And those Stuart Weitzman strappy sandals are basically the only thing celebrities will put on their feet anymore. Seriously. Those things are EVERYWHERE.

Interesting color and texture, but it doesn’t give me that “I NEED TO OWN THAT IMMEDIATELY” feeling that the previous look gave me.

It’s not a great length for such a petite lady, and I’m tired of her ombre hair. But the illusion netting works better than it usually does, although I wish the lining of the skirt matched the length of the skirt itself. That little two inches of missing lining is making the fashion-OCD part of me twitch uncontrollably.

I think I’d love this dress more on someone else – its ancient Grecian sex appeal would really sing on some ladies, but I prefer Emmy in more tailored, structured, modern garments. She looks astonishingly beautiful, of course, I’m just not sure this look suits her as well as it might suit a starlet with a more relaxed, laid-back vibe.

I normally live for a pop of hot pink, but there’s something very “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom!” about the hot pink nails matching the pumps. Not that a woman over forty can’t have fun with her accessories, but the matchy-matchiness of it feels like it would be more appropriate for Leslie’s fifteen-year-old daughter.

This is very odd, but I think in an excellent way. And before you start thinking that this boxy shape is unflattering, consider that Lake Bell is as pregnant in this photo as she is in the one below:

Now can you appreciate how crazy-flattering that previous jacket was, to hide such a bump? Anyway, this gown doesn’t work nearly as well for me. That dusty powder blue isn’t a wonderful color on her, and the gown needed several inches of hemming to actually fit her. And I totally respect that an overly swollen and probably sweaty pregnant lady doesn’t want to do much in the way of hair or makeup, but her outfit needs to match that. In funky separates, it’s easy to get away with little in the way of hair or makeup (particularly if you have Lake Bell’s natural beauty), but wearing an embellished gown requires a certain level of styling.

Chic, modern, and polished, like pretty much everything Lucy Liu wears. Also, this woman is twenty years older than I am, and I’m pretty sure she looks younger than me.
AMY POEHLER in New York City

See? I told you those Stuart Weitzman sandals were everywhere. And something about this adorable little tuxedo-dress thing is just perfect for Amy. It’s not particularly revealing, but it displays her fabulously toned arms and legs, which she doesn’t always show off.

I can’t pinpoint something I actively dislike about this look, but it just feels very matronly and conservative for a young hot thing like Emma Roberts. I think the neckline is the problem – it’s not high, but it’s not low, it’s just in that no-man’s-land of necklines that no one really wears anymore. Love the hair, though.
ASHLEY MADEKWE in Los Angeles

Just because it’s Lanvin doesn’t mean it works on you. That bubble skirt has to be perfectly fit and proportioned, otherwise it looks like a weird floating cloud of awkwardness. And the top doesn’t even come close to fitting her. It’s a shame, because Ashley Madekwe is one of my favorite red carpet up-and-comers. Her attention to detail (or her stylist’s, anyway) is usually impeccable, but here, she looks like a little girl playing dress-up.

This dress is several different kinds of awkward, from the ace-bandage-looking wrap around her shoulder to the mysterious cape-like effect happening in back. And I know it’s breast cancer event, so something has to be pink, but I hate that Barbie purse with a fiery passion. Also, she’s a beautiful young girl, so someone tell her makeup artist to stop painting her up like an old-timey French prostitute, please.

I know wild orchid is supposed to be the color of 2014, but dear God, it is a TERRIBLE color on Claire Danes. This might be the most fashionable dress at the junior prom, but it’s not exactly red carpet material, at least not on Claire, styled like this.

I’m all for fashion making a statement, but to literally have “No Smoking” written in several languages on your blouse seems like a bit much. Then again, if anyone has the ego to believe that her wardrobe can cure nicotine addictions, it’s Anne Hathaway.
